Do You Really Burn Calories During Sex?

Many people often wonder if they burn calories while having sex. This can be a difficult question to answer because there are so many factors to consider, such as intensity, duration, heart rate, etc. To really know if and how many calories you could burn during sex, you have to look at it like you would any active exercise.
Aerobic exercise, also known as cardiovascular exercise is the key to burning calories. Any activity that uses large muscle groups and is rhythmic can be considered aerobic exercise. Basically, if your heart and your lungs are working harder than usual and your having to breathe deeply, then you are involved in some kind of cardio exercise. So, considering this information, it is certainly possible to burn a few calories while having sex.
Since there have been no studies done on exactly how many calories are burned during sex it is not easy to give an exact number. But you can compare other aerobic activities to your own sessions under the sheets. Again, there are many factors involved to accurately know how many calories you will burn through any kind of exercise. With that being said, the average person burns about 100 calories walking one mile. So, you could compare how long walking a mile may take you and how increased your heart rate becomes to those same factors during sex. Also, you could compare how many calories you burn at the gym. Most cardio exercise machines will tell you how many calories you are burning. Compare your intensity and duration on an elliptical machine to the intensity and duration of sex with your partner and that may give you a basic idea of how many calories you are burning.
Ultimately, if you can get your heart rate up and keep that intensity going for at least 20-30 minutes, you can check sex off as one of your exercise sessions. So, discuss your new calorie-burning plans with your partner. I assure you, he or she will be nothing but supportive.

Canine Ear Infections: What to Look for and How to Treat It
- October 19th, 2008

Dogs can get ear infections just as easily as people and the worse part is that they are very painful. If you’re not sure if your dog has an ear infection, ask yourself these questions:
- Does the ear in question have a strong odor?
- Is there any kind of yellowish discharge coming from the dog’s ear?
- Is your dog rubbing his ear excessively?
- Is your dog shaking his head excessively?
- Does your dog pull away anytime you touch his ear(s)?
If you answered yes to a number of these questions, your dog may be showing symptoms of an ear infection. Take your dog to the veterinarian immediately. The vet will be able to diagnose your dog with an ear infection and be able to tell you what kind of infection he has, bacterial or yeast.
Once your dog has been officially diagnosed you need to choose an over the counter canine ear wash. Most ear washes are easy to use. You first pour a small amount of the solution onto the dog’s ears and then massage the infected area with your hands. Be sure to be gentle as your dog may be in pain. You can dry up any excess solution with cotton balls. Be sure to read all instructions on the ear wash bottle, as each over the counter solution may be a little different. After using the ear wash, you can place a touch of olive oil on your dog’s ears to sooth them and help with the pain.
To help prevent canine ear infections be sure to use an ear wash once or twice a week. This is especially good advice for dogs that swim or have a history of ear problems. It is also a good idea to wash out your dog’s ears after bathing. In addition, plucking out hair that grows in you dog’s ear canal will help to keep the canal dry. You can use common household tweezers.
All these extra doggie chores may seem like a lot of work but your dog will be happy, healthy, and it may save you some unnecessary trips to the vet.
