When we say feed your brain we are not speaking about providing it with an education and filling it with a world of information to absorb. We realize that a wasted mind is a crime!  The mind in order to function and gain knowledge needs brain food.

Brain foods consist of different foods that help boost production or contribute to the overall health of our brain. Brain foods are natural elements that are essential in maintaining a healthy brain. The elements consist of these food categories fats, proteins, carbohydrates and antioxidants.

When we are speaking about fats for brain food, we are referring to Omega-3 fatty acids, which considered as a brain food because they perform two important functions in the brain. Omega-3 maintains our mood balance and helps retain memory. This is a very important element for everyone.

Our brain needs protein in order to affect the neurotransmitters which such foods as eggs, fish, and beans all very good sources for protein.  Carbohydrates provide energy for the brain helping to affect the ability to concentrate. It is not wise to skip a meal because you become less sharp mentally and tired physically. The best carbohydrates are starchy carbs like potatoes, winter squash, corn, beets, and cooked carrots. The starchy carbs are helpful to regulate the body’s glucose levels.

Antioxidants used for brain foods has shown to help sustain memory and to keep people smarter for a longer period. Antioxidants are known as a great way to fight cancer and provide anti-aging results. Finding the needed foods with that provide us with the antioxidants is very easy. Most fruits and vegetables contain the much-needed antioxidants but look for the green leafy vegetables and berries to find the best provider.  When fruits and vegetables are in season fresh it is always wise to eat in order to provide your brain with much needed food.
